My students need the opportunity to make music with everyday items and these 30 buckets and sticks will be transformed into bucket drumming that is both engaging and fun.
The students at my school are great kids. Our population is derived from the children of military personnel, to the typical nuclear family, to children who get their only meals from our cafeteria. Some students come to school with the background knowledge needed for their grade level. Others have to be instructed in basic ways of life. No matter what their background, our students are spirited and full of potential.
My music classroom is full of eager and energetic musicians.
Students will not only learn songs, but will have an opportunity to play instruments, compose, improvise, analyze and discover what music is all about. We have a chance to be together for about an hour once a week. That adds up to at least 32 hours in an entire school year.
As a music teacher who is dedicated to her students, there is a lot to learn, but only a little time to get it done. Our music classroom needs to stay organized and efficient for students to get the best music education possible.
My Project
Boom! Boom! Boom! My students are always performing. Drumming is my student's favorite activity. We drum on whatever we can find: stools, chairs, tabletops or even our bodies. We are utilizing the items around us.
Bucket drumming would be a "hit" with all my classes.
Using non-traditional instruments, such as these 30 requested buckets, is an engaging method for teaching rhythm, form, dynamics and timbre. The requested drumsticks would give students a sense of pride, since we have never had any to use before.
Bucket drumming will also help my students meet state music standards in such a fun way. This type of activity will improve student engagement. We could even enjoy the outdoors in nice weather.
It will be bucket tappin' fun and performing for all!
