My students walk into class every day full of wonder, energy, and resilience. Each day in the classroom is a chance to shine and start fresh, no matter what outside distractions may await them at home or in their community. I want them to know I believe in them and they can do anything. Because many do not get the opportunity to experiment with musical instruments outside of school, I LOVE to give them that experience when they come to music class. We love recorders, drums, ukuleles, and guitars, but sadly do not have enough to accommodate all students when they come to class.
I teach at a Title I School in Massachusetts, where 61% percent of our students are considered economically disadvantaged.
Our students come from a variety of backgrounds. We have students that have just arrived to the United States, special education students, students with visual and auditory deficits, and students who have experienced major trauma. My students are so much more than these descriptions, however. These amazing kids just want a chance, and a glimpse into a future where they are allowed to see dreams come true!
My Project
Bucket drumming has become a major genre in the music world in recent years, and it's FUN.
The best part about bucket drumming is that ANYONE can do it!
But to do it well, you need buckets, sticks, and something to hold up the music. We have the buckets, courtesy of the Leaktite Corporation (thanks, Leaktite!), but we still need the accessories to become the best drummers we can be! Please consider supporting my third and fourth grade bucket bands by helping us to get a class set of tabletop music stands and drumsticks. You would be reaching a group of kids who don't get to experience things like this outside of school, but who have a passion unlike anything I've ever seen! Thanks in advance for your help!
