My Students

My students need to learn and experience how their bodies operate with the overarching goal of them living healthier lives.

The school has over 3500 students in grades 10-12, with two full-time Anatomy and Physiology teachers.

A & P is an elective and the students are eager, but we desperately need equipment for them to work with. All sorts of stimuli can alter the parameters we are hoping to measure - physical and psychological stress, illness, many others. We want our students to become more and more curious about why things happen in their bodies.

My Project

Initially, students will measure and record BP, temp, bpm, and oxygenation % weekly for 16 weeks; after data analysis, they'll learn that these things are variable not only from person to person but variable over time for an individual. After that, various stresses such as stair-climbing, test-taking, and relaxation techniques will be introduced and the differences in the above parameters will be analyzed.

Experiments make science meaningful and fun, and most experiments require equipment.

By understanding how their bodies work, our students will be better able to take care of themselves and their loved ones.
