This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Middle school is full of impacting experiences. In my opinion, art is one those classes where the students come with high expectations for learning. One hundred percent of my students participate in the free and reduced-price lunch program, and every one of them comes from a community that has many challenges economically and socially.
The highlight of their day is knowing that they will be able to come to art class and walk away with a project that speaks to their self-expressive souls.
These students come to school daily with the hopes and dreams that one day they will be able to become productive citizens of their community.
My Project
We love to paint! Painting is a relaxing and calming activity that produces unique images that are self-expressive and original. Most students can not wait to paint in art class. The teacher just hopes to provide them with the necessary materials.
Specific paint brushes are essential tools for smooth and accurate application.
We will have several projects that require paint and paint brushes. We will be using them for portrait making and full coverage of masks, sculptures and landscapes. If you are familiar with watercolor, then you know that it is a very different material than acrylic paint. Therefore it would be very helpful to have the appropriate tools for certain mediums.
