This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are happy, avid readers. They really enjoy visiting the library and choosing a book that is just right for them.
It is a joy to see them enter the library with smiles on their faces.
I enjoy talking with them about topics they would like to learn about and assisting them in choosing their books.
Most of my students live in a lower income area. Without opportunities to visit a public library regularly, the school library becomes their chance to interact with books and learn the routines and available technology provided by a library.
My Project
When a student is having trouble finding a library book I often refer them to the desktop computer to look at the library catalog. When they locate a book, paper and pencil must be used to record the information and then take this information to the book shelf to locate the book. I am hoping to make them mobile and eliminate the recording of information.
Using an IPad mini will allow the students to search for the information and take the IPad with them to the library shelving area where the book is located.
No more paper and pencils needed and technology is at their fingertips, not on a table on the other side of the room.
The use of this technology will allow my students the freedom to browse the library to find many topics of interest.
