Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I have classroom full of excellent second grade students! My students attend a title one school, and many of them come from homes where their parents don't know how to read in English or they don't know how to read all. I quickly learned that my challenge was not going to be making them interested in books, but helping them to choose books. Their main problem is managing traditional bookshelves. All I have right now are two small, regular bookshelves. Many children's picture books are so thin that the title cannot be printed on the spine. That means that my seven-year-old students have to randomly pick through the shelved books, and in the process tend to damage the books. As a result, I cannot allow my students to simply go and browse the books without supervision. I would like a bookshelf for my library that makes it easier for my students to find a book to read. What is great about the bookshelf I picked out for them is that there are bins in which I can categorize my books by topic and reading level. Also, there is an area for display on either side of the shelf. I can highlight holiday and thematic books there. This bookshelf would help my students to find books that would help them learn and improve in every subject. I assure you that my students deserve every consideration you might give them.
