This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our middle schoolers are excellent students who were dealt a hand that they have no control of, but they still come to school every single day and try their best to prove the statistics wrong.
Our middle school students are more than just underprivileged kids in the Mississippi Delta.
They are also ambassadors in our community. Our middle school is on its way to being a top-rated school in the Mississippi Delta, and my students need your help securing that title of distinction through experiences and resources.
My Project
As my students are getting older, they are understanding that representation matters. Although they enjoy reading, they truly get into a story that has characters who look like them; characters who talk or act like them; characters who are going through some of the issues that they are going through at home. They want characters that are not only relatable, but genuinely like them.
My kiddos have done the work themselves as far as looking for books for me to request from our donors.
They have a list of about 50 books, but I told them that they will need to narrow it down to 15. Once we get the first 15 funded, we will shoot for the next 15, until all 50 of the books they requested are readily available for them in our classroom library.
