I work in an early childhood special education program, working with students to help them gain foundational skills so they can access the regular education classroom. This is the beginning of their education, and we are laying the foundation for the next 12 to 15 years of school they have ahead of them.
Every day, I get to see magic happen, and the rewards are priceless.
The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery.
I teach two sessions of preschool children with a wide range of abilities, they are all in this program for direct instruction from a variety of therapists. My students range in age from 3 years-old to 5 years-old.
My Project
We will be starting to learn about bears soon and wanted to give the kids the opportunity to look and learn from the small model bears. My students all see bears in books but locally our zoo does not have bears to see. I am asking for small model brown bears, polar bears and panda bears so we can explore the differences and see what they have in common.
We will use these model bears in our sensory table, in the block area, and at the light table.
We are asking for the panda village block set so we can explore the habitat of bears. I think the children will love building a zoo in the block area and using the bamboo blocks.
I have also asked for magnetic look inside blocks to add to our light table as the children love all things magnetic and these will help us build upon a new surface. They will also give us an opportunity to look at different 3D shapes and talk about colors.
