Brooklyn Students in Need of Technology for Research
My students need classroom laptops to have access to technology and be successful in the 21st Century by learning how to properly research primary and secondary sources.
My students are from Brooklyn, NY. This classroom is diverse, with many students speaking their parents' primary language at home, while learning English at school and in their social lives outside of school. My school culture is changing as we continue to expand our Special Education programs. Our school receives inadequate funding for technology. We are way behind in the technology front. Through DonorsChoose.org we can potentially give all of our students the skills needed to be high school, college, and career ready. The classroom contains 34 students with one third of our students classified as students with disabilities. Many of our students lack technology access in their homes and, therefore, they lack basic technology skills and proficiency.
My Project
As an 8th Grade history teacher, my students will utilize these laptops to help build the necessary technology skills of the 21st century. The use of technology in the classroom in middle school will help my students become college and career ready as they move forward in their academic careers.
With the addition of these laptops to my classroom, the students will have access to research primary and secondary source materials from credible sources to view history from multiple perspectives.
From this research, the students will take a position by writing an argument essay with detailed evidence to back up their position.
