Imagine a world with lions and magic, witches and laughter. My students in the Bronx have been begging for adventure/fantasy book clubs for the past year. They have been asking for high interest fiction books to help them escape from the city.
I have over 500 students, including special needs students, that visit the library of our high needs, low income school every week.
These students are dedicated to reading and love all the books I recommend to them. Now, students are asking to come in during recess, lunch and after school to read books together. The library does not have sets of books that a small group of students could check out and read together for fun in a book club.
My Project
The book clubs will include: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Twits, Frindle, and Clementine to name a few. These books will be available to over 500 students that come to the library every week. Groups can check them out and hold book clubs in the library discussing characters, theme and how much they enjoyed the books. Teachers can also use these books with their guided reading groups on higher reading levels to challenge gifted students. The students will also learn to read books for pure enjoyment and not for assignments.
Reading should be fun and full of adventurous stories of whimsical creatures and far away castles hosting heroes and princesses.
Help the students in the Bronx escape to far away lands through the gift of multiple sets of adventure books. Thank you for your help and providing to the children in the Bronx. They will love these books and cherish their journey to the magical and unknown.
