Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are located in the Kingsbridge area of the Bronx. Most of our students come from low-income families who cannot afford to buy instruments. Our school has a limited amount of instruments so the students have to share them. Because many of our students share instruments and books, their individual practice is limited to class time only.
The students are very motivated about playing their instruments and would benefit greatly if they had more time to practice.
If we had enough instruments, they would be able to take them home to practice each night. This would be a game changer in the individual development of each student.
My Project
The students in my band class are using instruments that have been pass down through the years and have been worn down. They are in constant need of repair and are very difficult to play. It becomes very frustrating for the students, who are beginners, to learn how to play on an instrument that does not work properly. If we had new instruments such as clarinets and flutes, the students would be able to see results more frequently and would most likely enjoy the difficult process of learning to play an instrument. I know that this would positively affect the the outcome of our class.
