My students are high schoolers in a low income area. Our district is challenged with providing the same education and resources that upper-income schools provide. Many of my students love hands-on projects where they can participate.
Working in the inner-city, you learn to work without.
My students have definitely learned to survive in this environment, but they don't really understand that not having the same technology and resources available will not truly prepare them for the real world. When they move to the workforce, they will be competing against people that were able to use the latest and greatest technology. They have resources like the latest software, computers and text books.
My objective is to even the playing field for my students. My projects are designed to give my students the opportunity to prepare themselves for the workforce. It also provides them the opportunity to be creative. My classes include debate, broadcast journalism, forensics/theatre, English and yearbook/digital yearbook.
My classes have evolved to competitive programs where we compete and win events against other schools. We win with our minds and our hearts.
My Project
We will utilize the Samsung TV for many purposes including viewing our work when we have completed it as a team. We will also use this to enhance our green screen allowing our reporter to be able to view themselves in front of the background as viewers will see them. The objective is to get to a live broadcast and provide a place for students to come and watch the news or school documentaries that we create. I also need a television because many documentaries for class are not meant to be projected. This would offer higher resolution viewing.
Using a television to view the work rather than a projector, will allow my students to see their work and display their work properly for their audience.
I plan to eventually have multiple televisions to display news channel and documentaries around the school on each floor. Please help me show my students that their hard work will be rewarded.
