This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The population my school serves is mostly minority students comprised of 70% Black Non-Hispanic (a vast majority of these are of Haitian-Creole descent), 22% Hispanic, 5% White Non-Hispanic, and 3% Asian/Indian/Multiracial.
The school as a whole is classified as a Title I school, which is a school with a high percentage of children from low-income families, to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards.
We are designated as a STEM school and the students I personally teach are represented in our STEM-based magnet program.
My Project
Our greatest need is the outdoor scoreboard. This will help all of our athletics teams which include girls/boys basketball, girls/boys soccer, girls volleyball and girls flag football. This will help both competing teams to make better use of time and be able to use better strategies while competing.
Our athletic department has broad needs, we can help multiple teams at once with a scoreboard.
Additionally, we need soccer socks and flag football belts for our boys/girls soccer and girls flag football teams. The socks will help keep their protective shin guards in place.
Lastly, our softball team needs batting tees for fielding practice.
