Bringing the Outsiders Inside the Classroom

Help me give my students a classroom set of The Outsiders and colored pencils that will allow the students to read, annotate, and color-code the text to increase their understanding of the themes within The Outsiders.

My Project

This project is designed to bring The Outsiders into my classroom. This novel is a great way for students to understand the struggles teens go through and that stereotypes are always wrong and never true. Through this story, my students will explore the themes of loyalty, bravery, sacrifice, socio-economics, and love. This is a story that will my students will be able to identify with based on the diverse racial and economic populations within our school. The colored pencils will help the student annotate the text and mark-up evidence from the text that they will use for writing prompts and higher-order, thinking, questions.
