Help me give my students the desire to read books. By funding these more recent titles, I can create a current library that students will want to access. These books are a mixture of fiction and non-fiction.
My students are primarily in Dual Credit English 1301 and 1302. I also have regular-level 12th grade English students. They are hardworking and dedicated to their studies. We have limited access to current books and very few books that truly represent different cultures. Our school is one of the most diverse in the entire nation. I would like for my classroom library to be a reflection of this diversity. I also believe that it's important to have current books, because students need ways to relate to the plot.
My Project
Students will be able to read both non-fiction and fiction pieces that are not only current, but also enticing. By senior year, many students have given up on the idea of loving to read and I want to bring back the idea that reading is a way for you to escape from the overwhelming world.
Many seniors are overwhelmed with deadlines, such as college applications and scholarships.
By taking time during the day to escape from the anxiety, students will be able to have the chance to escape this pressure.
With the classroom library, my students will be more likely to take the time to read during the school day. I will integrate time to read during the class period, several times a week.
