Our school is located in Central Florida. It is a beautiful campus filled with children who love to learn and enjoy school. This is amplified by a school leader who thrives on thinking outside the box. His leadership gives teachers and students the option of learning through means of hands-on! The APSK8 community is filled with families who thrive on providing their children with experiences such as literacy nights. With this grant, we will be able to provide more STEM projects, literacy nights, and hands-on learning experiences for kids.
My Project
This project is a combination of activities that will be used for STEM literacy nights.
First, an outdoor projection system will allow for educational videos to play while students travel from building to building doing investigations, experiments, listening to speakers, etc.
Our school focuses on animal education so there are large exhibits of animals throughout the school. Numerous large corporations partner with us to make these nights fabulous such as Gatorland, Central Florida Zoo, Science Center, SeaWorld, Leu Gardens, Exotic Kingdom, World Wide Corals, and Audubon Sanctuary.
Next, to bring in the technology component, 3-D printers will be used to design children's animal of choice. Baby alligators are our specialty to clay figures designed in art class will be used to print them from our Sprout computers.
Finally, the technology department would like to begin project mapping throughout the school. Focuses will be on student work such as poetry month, Black History month heroes, or any other monthly themes. When not in use a school mascot, the falcon, will be projected flapping its wings in the media center as a focal point.
