Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are 7th and 8th graders at a dual-language school in Boston. My students have been taught in both English and Spanish since kindergarten. They are very thoughtful and constantly diving into learning while taking on leadership in the classroom.
They love to explore new ideas, cultures and concepts each and every day.
I am lucky to explore with them through my Humanities course. They are a wonderful group of students that see their individual success wrapped up in the success of others in the class. They work together and are extremely compassionate.
My Project
Recently, we just got the exciting news that our Chromebook project was funded! We now have a total of 8 computers that we have already been using daily. Our class is still in need of several Chromebooks to complete our class set. As a result, I am fundraising for Part Two of this initiative. My students live in an increasingly high-tech world and I am hoping I can accomplish my original goal of having a one-to-one Chromebook ratio in the classroom.
So many teaching and learning tools are available online for students and I want my students to be as up-to-date as private and suburban schools.
Currently, many of my students do not have access to a computer at home. If I want to use computers in school, I have to reserve them and hope that no other teacher has reserved them. If each student had a Chromebook, I could assign more interactive and engaging activities. Students could practice typing and getting accustomed to the technology they will need to master in high school and beyond.
The possibilities for innovative projects would be endless. Thank you in advance for helping me bring technology into the classroom.
