Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students who attend my school come to us with a number of challenges that they must work hard to overcome. These challenges include poverty, learning disabilities, and past traumas. My students are living and being educated and trying to succeed in one of the poorest cities in Massachusetts.
96% of my students live at or below the poverty level.
87% of my students do not speak English as their native language.
22% of my students have learning or emotional disabilities.
60% of my students come into our school not proficient in English Language arts.
77% of my students come into our school not proficient in math.

My Project
I am requesting 3 tablet computers. Most of my students do not have steady access to computers or the Internet at home. Unfortunately my school does not have a computer lab for students to use while they are in school. I have two PCs in my classroom which are a bit beat up and over 10 years old. These tablets would enable my students not only to research the topics we are studying but also to develop some of the 21st century skills they will need to be successful in life. These tablets will open a new world for my students, a world of experiences, sights, opinions, and information that they would otherwise not have access to.
These tools will allow my students to access information that they would otherwise not have the opportunity to.
The skills and knowledge they gain from using these tools will help to impact them with the knowledge and skill they will need to be successful in high school, college, work and life. Please help to make my students successful.
