As a teacher on a military base, I see that my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Students have been resilient at moving every 2-3 years and adapting to new schools, friends, and teachers. I help provide a constant at the school and learning that is creative and meaningful.
My students like to move, learn through positive interactions, and they love technology.
From the minute the students walk in the door of the classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I come up with lessons that encourage student interactions, choice, and learn through multiple modalities. I am looking to get keyboard trays for the desks so students will have work space to also use manipulatives and use of scratch paper while still using the computers. This will allow students to work more effectively when working with technology.
My Project
Getting keyboard trays for our computer lab will give our students room to complete a multi-modal approach to learning. There will be room for students to write and use manipulatives while using technology.
This will help students use a variety of methods when working with technology through any subject area.
We specifically use the technology for spelling, grammar, Google Docs, reading, vocabulary, math, typing and test taking strategies. Being able to create more space on the tables for students to write and solve their problems on paper or outline their writing assignments help students plan and prepare for life-long learning.
