My students need 2 Chromebooks with 2 Chromebook Management Licenses to help reach our goal of creating MakerSpaces in the classroom where students can create a virtual world of projects.
"The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education." - Martin Luther King, Jr.
Our school is located in a diverse, high poverty neighborhood of Chicago, IL.
We have exceptional community involvement and a caring and progressive administration but we have very limited resources available to us.
My 3rd grade class is full of unique personalities. Creative, funny, dramatic, and mysterious, those are words to describe my students. They are also words to describe the stories they love to write! My students explore reading and writing together. I am building life-long readers, lovers of literature, creative thinkers, and effective writers. We actively work on projects incorporating science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. We are a room of authors, mathematicians, scientists, poets, teachers and learners!
My Project
My students need to have an independent Chrome Book Center with 2 Chrome Management license to build their technology skills.
Many of my students are ELL learners, and their parents do not speak or understand English.
I teach in a high poverty school, in which many of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch.
My students represent a variety of diverse learners and students with special needs that do not have access to technology in their home due to their families financial situation.
My Project
I work in a high poverty area in a big city where most of my students do not have access to the internet at home. Additionally, my students can not complete daily interactive homework assignments that require the use of technology. I would like to add 2 Chrome books and 2 Chrome Management licenses to my classroom so my students can have access to technology during and after school in order for them to be successful in their interactive learning.
I want to create a MakerSpace or a collaborative work space inside my classroom for making, learning, exploring and sharing that uses high tech tools. These spaces will be open to my students, and will have a variety of maker equipment, such as the the Chromebooks that will assist in creating a virtual world of projects. It’s more of the maker mindset of creating something out of nothing and exploring your own interests that’s at the core of a MakerSpace.
This space will also help to prepare those students who need the critical 21st century skills in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math. They provide hands on learning, help with critical thinking skills and even boost self-confidence.
