My students need two iPads to use throughout the day.

Hooray! This project is fully funded
Times have changed in first grade and I am always looking for ways to improve education for all of my students. Having two iPads in the room will help these children on the road to technological literacy.
I have 31 first graders this year!
Yes, I know that is too many, but this is my reality. I have two very old computers that work poorly and have limited time twice a month in a computer Lab. This is due to an overcrowded school. Computer access is difficult. My students are city kids in Oregon who love to learn.
My goal is to use what little technology I have in ways that will benefit all my students. The iPads will be used for educational games to reinforce math, reading and science skills. We will use interactive story books. First graders need to be able to listen to a story online and answer questions and key details. The iPads will be used with multimedia encyclopedias. Doing basic research during our Penguin and Farm units will enhance these wonderful units.
Common Core Standards states that first graders should be learning basic technological skills to support core subjects like reading, writing and math.
Knowing how to navigate a touch screen enables them to manipulate math concepts on the screen. In science, we can watch close up footage of penguins. First grade needs to lay the foundation for technological literacy.
