My students need to be able to compete in this 21st century tech world. These tablets and headphones will allow them daily access for both reading and typing to prepare them for their future.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My third and fourth grade scholars are wonderful learners who are eager to explore the world or reading. They will work hard to achieve their growth goal of two years of reading growth this year. As we step into the new school year, we are eager to take that learning one step farther.
My vision for this year includes my students using tablets to connect to the outside world.
My Project
I am going into my sixth year in the classroom, and one of the biggest challenges I see in West Baltimore is a lack of access to technology. If I am lucky, I can get a classroom set of somewhat working laptops once a month; that is when it is not PARCC testing season (March thru June). During those months you have absolutely no additional access to the computer carts.
It is my vision this year for my students to be able to access technology on a daily basis.
Whether it be reading articles and books online or typing up their end of unit essays. I want to ensure my students are ready for their future by learning how to easily use technology.
I plan to use the tablets and headphones on a daily basis to connect my students to the world through videos, articles, and other sources to improve their learning. I also hope to incorporate the tablets into our writing class in order to improve their typing skills to allow them to be successful in this 21st century world.
This additional access to technology will also help my one student who is dyslexic. There are many online resources to help her with this and will allow her to be successful both in school and in the future.
