Musical, creative, inquisitive, energetic...these are all words that describe my students. They love to sing, move, play instruments, and learn in hands-on ways. They love to use drums, Orff instruments, and ukuleles in our music room, and they love to perform.
Around 25% of our students come from military families, and this brings them their own unique set of challenges.
I want to teach them a love for music that will last them their whole lives, wherever they may find themselves.
My Project
“I wish I had never learned to play the piano”- these are words I’ve never heard an adult say. However, I’ve had countless parents tell me that they wish they’d learned to play. We have been fortunate to have 19 pianos funded for our piano lab, and now we need the technology to go with them.
We have several students who have recently moved to our area from Puerto Rico, some as recently as last week.
They have experienced much change and trauma, and I fully believe that music can be a great comfort in times like this. When participating in music, there is no English or Spanish; only the music!
This piece of equipment, the GLC controller, will allow us state of the art flexibility in the piano lab setup. With this controller, each student will be able to practice alone with headphones on and I will be able to monitor each student individually by listening in. This will give us the ability to play individually and as a class. I’m so excited to see our piano lab come to life!
