Imagine what it must be like to go through school with a hearing loss. My deaf hard of hearing students have to deal with this everyday. They need lots of visuals and interactive activities, and this Mimio will help me accomplish this for them to make their learning experience that much better.
I have an Intermediate Oral Deaf Hard of Hearing class at a public school in Florida.
My class consists of 3rd through 5th graders, who are working at a 1st or 2nd grade level. Being that they don't have their full hearing capacity, I have to find and/or create lessons that are full of visuals and interactions for the students. I have many bright students who are eager to learn, but may need that one lesson activity that really pulls them into the lesson and gets them involved.
My Project
Interactive whiteboards are one of the big technological items that teachers would love to have in their classrooms, making their lessons 10 times better. This Mimio will transform my whiteboard into an interactive whiteboard where my students will be able to be more actively involved in their learning.
The Mimio software has a huge database with many Math, Science, Reading/Language Arts, and SS manipulatives to use and to help students understand the concepts more efficiently. I will be able to create lessons with lots of visuals for my students to interact with.
I believe that when students are actively engaged, they are more apt to remember the information. This device will allow me the opportunity to let my students have a more conducive learning environment. I had an opportunity to work with a Smartboard once for a Social Studies lesson on the continents and the oceans of the world. The first time taking the quiz without using the board failed. After using the board the students did well.
I truly believe that if I can get this Mimio for my classroom, my below level class will make gains much faster.
They will be able to take a more active stance in their own learning. I believe having and using these digital visuals, that can be manipulated, will have a tremendous effect on my students.
