My students are happy, lively, and excited about learning in my school library. They are always eager to see what fun STEM activities or stories I have planned for the day. My students live in a rural area of North Carolina. They enjoy learning about different cultures all over the world. We begin class by introducing or reviewing the STEM/Literacy activity in each station. After selecting their books in the Media Center each week, they easily transition into centers and begin to build, engage, and create. My library is alive and full of conversation as students work through challenges together in small groups. My students are excited about learning and are always eager to try new challenges as I introduce students to new books about diverse cultures and students engage in STEM activities.
My students are engineers, explorers, and engaged learners; they are eager to learn about the world around them through multicultural stories and augmented/virtual reality learning experiences.
My Project
My students will use the pencils, colored pencils, crayons and markers, tape and glue to create their own illustrations of characters from books they have read. They will then write out a 30 second book talk by saying their name, the name of their book, the name of the author and illustrator and then an "I like this book because," or "When I read this book it made me feel_________" "I suggest you read this book because_________."
Students will create a book character with the art supplies, upload it, design, narrate and then see their creation digitally come to life.
Students will create their masterpiece of a book character and then upload it to the Chatterpix Kids Application. They will create a line where the characters mouth will move, read their 30 second book talk, place a few decorative digital stickers on their creation and then produce their digital masterpiece.
Students individual videos will be placed on a QR code that students in their school can then scan to view the book talks. Students will have the option to check out the books that are promoted in the videos. Book Talks for students by Students will encourage my students to take ownership of reading and suggesting reading materials to their friends in a fun an inviting atmosphere.
