Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach pre-kindergarten at a small, neighborhood school in Central Florida. Our school is a Title I school and the majority of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. We are growing our pre-k program and will be starting our second year.
The majority of our students start pre-k speaking only Spanish and need an authentic experience to foster a love of learning and an introduction to vocabulary in these subject areas.
Our students are like little sponges as they are ready and willing to participate in these new activities!
My Project
Story time is the most MAGICAL part of our day in Pre-K! The stories open up a while new world all while exploring language, sequence, rhyming words and imagination!
Young children LOVE stories and the Lakeshore Stortytelling Kits will help bring these stories to life with flannel pieces and props for retelling!
The hands on pieces will also help my English Language Learners aquire new vocabulary through stories. The Lakeshore Big Books will allow my students get a close up view of the stories similar to bedtime stories at home.
Young children learn best with novelty to keep them interested and engaged. These kits will provide my students the opportunity to retell stories as they build language, use their imagination and open up a whole new world with a LOVE for STORIES!
