Our students are creative, smart, inquisitive, and enthusiastic learners. They come to the library with a love of reading and a passion for learning new things.
All 330 children at this Title I school are yearning for a chance to explore new technology.
PV Elementary has 16 percent of its students are taking free or reduced lunch based on their socioeconomic status. Additionally, Praire View Elementary holds the only elementary autism program in the Mukwonago Area School District.
PVE has also been recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School, which honors the students' high levels of performance and significant improvements in closing the achievement gap among student subgroups.
My Project
I would love to surprise the students at PV Elementary School with these new Sphero robotic balls! These highly engaging light up robots are exciting and educational for all students (K-6) to use in our library. I plan to use these throughout the school year to teach students more about STEM, coding, and programming new technology.
Our school is working towards bridging the digital divide.
Not all of our students have internet access at home or new technology to explore. Therefore, the development of a makerspace in our school affords ALL students that opportunity. Additionally, I plan to run a STEM Club after school, one day a week, which would include students being able to use these tools outside of the school day. By giving students an opportunity to develop computing, programming, and problem-solving skills at school, we are providing an equitable experience with technology for all students.
I have used Spheros before with students and I know they will be a hit with the students and teachers! The Sphero has functions where students apply angle measurements, speed, and distances to design routes for the robotic ball to run. Students can build a maze and problem solve their way by programming the robotic ball to the finish line. The Sphero brings this computational thinking and programming to life as it will be able to move throughout the library based on student command!
