Many times when I tell people that I teach middle school, they cringe and tell me I'm crazy. Crazy or not, I absolutely love teaching in the middle! This is my 17th year teaching and 15 of those years have been at the middle school level.
I don't think my students will ever understand how much they've added to my life.
No matter what is happening outside of my career, I can always count on them to bring a smile to my face multiple times a day. I only hope I have brought the same to them.
I've taught many subjects, but teaching STEM is by far my favorite. It is so much fun to bring real world problem solving to my students and see them get so excited about learning. I couldn't imagine myself in any other type of profession!
My Project
21st century learning and STEM are at the forefront of education today therefore, I am seeking funding that will allow me to attend the national ITEEA STEM conference in order to bring both of these things to the students in my district. I will also be presenting one of the concepts that I have implemented at our middle school.
Attending this conference would not only add to my teaching toolbox, it will help enable me to assist in building a K-12 STEM curriculum within our district.
One of the main goals for our district is to implement a STEM curriculum within the next five years across all grade levels. I will be a part of the team developing this plan. Attending this national conference will allow me to gain information and connections to make this goal a reality. Presenting at the conference will help me grow as a leader for our district and my students. I am excited at the opportunity to bring the best educational practices to our entire district and impact the lives of all of our students.
