Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Not all students learn in the same way. Some are auditory learners, some learn by doing, and some are visual learners.
I have always had a diversified set of students every year.
It is part of the reason that I love to teach. Every year the new group of students bring lots of experience and background to share. They are determined to learn, and together with the teachers and staff at our school, we are making it happen. If the following items are funded, these kids would be able to grow and learn far beyond what I can financially provide for them.
My Project
My classroom library is a place where students get excited to use their imagination and practice their reading skills during the independent reading time. As an English language learner, books are very important to my students and are imperative when developing language skills. The books in my library are always treated with love and care, and every student in my classroom is thankful for the opportunities to read in class. The selected books will be used to provide weekly project-based units to cover reading comprehension, vocabulary, and grammar. The students will be exposed to learning situations that require critical thinking and innovative design.
Favorite children’s literature will be used to create STEM/STEAM challenges.
The STEM/STEAM challenges will be differentiated for my students'. When I selected the books, I kept in mind 6 key themes: growth mindset, perseverance, inventive thinking, engineering design, real-world applications, and ideas that change the world. Each of these titles reflects those themes and will be used to foster critical and creative thinking in my students. Having an abundant and diverse classroom library will enhance my students' vocabulary, reading level, and content knowledge. Moreover, not only will students have new books to read, but they will also realize how much information they have access to. My ultimate goal is to inspire students to love to read and yearn for knowledge.
