Our children are amazing 3, 4, and 5 year olds that reside in Fayette County. Our multi age, inclusionary classrooms are geared for children learning through hands -on, active learning.
Our children have such potential to become successful life long learners.
They demonstrate excitement and curiosity when it comes to learning in the classroom. With ongoing parental engagement and community support, they can become the successful individuals we know they can be.
Our community is classified as rural and has experienced some unfortunate changes in demographics over the past decade. Over 90% of our students have qualified for our program by meeting federal poverty guidelines. Many of the students/families deal with food insecurity, poverty, and homelessness.
Despite the challenges they face everyday, our children want to learn and are excited about any new opportunities they are offered!
My Project
We are finding that due to community and economic challenges children in poverty are not exposed to quality STEM materials before beginning their formal school career. It is my goal to provide family friendly STEM activities that can be used at home and involve the whole family.
I believe regular exposure at a young age to quality STEM materials will allow our children to build a foundation of critical thinking skills that will serve them well in our global economy.
The Brik Buster game encourages collaborative problem solving and critical thinking skills to develop across school readiness domains. The best part of this project would be to provide the materials to utilize in the home, when it is convenient, and to engage the whole family in the learning process.
What better advocates could our children have to support them throughout their learning experiences? Parents and teachers working together, in partnership, to make a difference for one child at a time!
