I am always looking for ways to teach in an engaging, exciting, and constructive way, but materials are hard to come by. Eyewitness videos are among the most fascinating and thought-provoking documentaries for young people, and an addition of a set of them to my classroom would make our scientific inquiry unit possible! In a few months, we will be in the midst of a non-fiction reading and writing unit of study. Students will be learning about such scientific marvels as tornadoes, great white sharks, rain forests, and the list goes on. So that my students can learn as much as possible in this unit of study, I have created a companion unit on scientific inquiry that requires them to research and report on a number of different topics - all of which are covered in the Eyewitness box set of videos. They can use our viewing station (generously donated to my class through DonorsChoose) to further their research on their chosen topics. I want to offer my students the same opportunities that children in better-funded schools have. I want to bring whales, the desert, and a myriad of other species and habitats into our classroom.
