This jewel of a school is unique among all other public schools in our county. Our 4th-8th grade students are immersed in a condensed academic curriculum in the mornings, but their afternoons are dedicated to the arts. Strings, drums, ceramics, dance, creative writing, choir, and visual arts are just a handful of the classes from which they can choose.
The opportunity to participate in the arts as part of their academic day is a unique and exceptional experience for our students.
By accessing their creativity on a daily basis, our students are exercising all aspects of their developing minds. It is inspiring and humbling to witness such artistic expression among our students, many of whom also excel in academics. The talents and gifts of these children are phenomenal.
My Project
Science camp is a place where students are taken beyond the cover of a textbook to learn in a natural setting. Earth science, marine science, and ecology come to life as students explore the natural world. They are taught how to gather and organize information, and then process it using scientific methods and equipment not available to them in the classroom.
What better way to learn about something than to experience it firsthand?
This program turns the students' school experience inside-out. The natural world is now their classroom. Hiking trails become their hallways. Tide pools are their desktops. Students learn not only how to identify plants, insects, and wildlife, but ways to protect them and other natural resources. The group format encourages cooperation, teamwork, and respect among the individual students and helps them build self-esteem. Overall, science camp is an experience where through discovering their environment, students also discover themselves.
