My Students
My students are third graders who have shown promise in reading, mathematics, or problem solving and been placed into a special gifted and talented class because of it. The students come to this class once a week to explore concepts and challenges they would not get to experience in their normal classroom.
They are inquisitive, bright students who want to learn, but who need exciting resources to motivate them to do so.
They need something different than paper and pencil to spice it up a bit.
These students come from three different Title I (high poverty) schools located in North Charleston, SC.
My Project
My students LOVE the story of The Green Book. However, they do not love the books. Our book sets are about 10 years old and they are falling to pieces.
The kids beg for new books.
They whine and complain that pages are falling out of theirs and I cannot blame them. A book doesn't seem as fun to read when it looks like it is falling apart.
I would love to give them a beautiful new set of these books that they love as much as they love the story itself. However, it is just not in my personal budget. I need your help.
