My Students

My students are passionate and enthusiastic learners, who inspire me each day. Our school is located in a lovely small town in West Michigan. The students in my room come to me from all walks of life and at all different levels. No matter where they come from or where they are starting from, they give their best and strive to improve to their highest potential! This in turn, creates an environment that pushes me to be the best I can be and help to continue to elevate them!

My Project

These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. My classroom is a place that fosters a love of learning and specifically READING! All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind. As we delve deeper into Reader's Workshop, it is vital that students are given the opportunity to explore these often complex and abstract concepts in a tangible way. Using appropriate mentor texts, not only exposes students to high quality literature, but it also allows them to identify and observe concepts or strategies, in a guided and more accessible format, that may otherwise be difficult or complex. This in turn makes it possible for students to better comprehend the material and bring these skills into practice in their independent reading and literacy exploration.

With these new books, my students will be able to gain a clear picture of the various literacy concepts, strategies, and techniques that can often times be tricky to master.

Students will able to further their literacy success and translate mini-lesson objectives more effectively into their independent work. The best way to increase reading ability is to not only read more, but also to have a deeper and more complex understanding and mastery of the various components of strong reading skills and strategies, and these books will support students in doing just that. My students have already shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
