Help me give my students the opportunity to create large canvas murals with stretcher bars and canvas rolls to be displayed on the enormous gray walls of our school.
My 140 students are working hard each day to lift themselves out of generational poverty. Many have not ventured outside the city. Students from varying ethnic backgrounds and cultures will benefit from this project.
80 percent receive discounted meals, 13 percent don't have access to a mobile device, and five percent live in tents.
They love learning, interacting with their peers, and seeing their progress and improvement. For many of them, this classroom is a safe place where they come, not only to learn, but to be surrounded by friends, celebrate their differences, and motivate each other's success.
My Project
The students will build, design and paint large murals to be displayed on the walls of North Beach Jr/Sr High. The objectives for the project are to have students use imagery that relates to the community, local cultures, the school district, and the student's imagination.
This project gives the students an opportunity to create art that will be permanently displayed in the school.
The project helps give students a sense of pride and positive expression that will be seen by their peers and alumni for many years. The commons area at our school boasts large gray walls that need to be infused with our student's creativity and ownership.
