I have a mixture of students enrolled in our State Preschool and Special Education Program. My students need an iPad mini and a clean, comfortable, soothing carpet that will help keep circle time organized and relaxed.
We have a morning and an afternoon class.
These children, ages 3-5, are from different ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Students vary in needs and abilities but all share one common goal: a classroom community that focuses on acceptance. Children with special needs benefit from the modeling and examples of their typically developing peers, and the children who are typically developing learn acceptance and empathy from their peers who have special needs. As the general education teacher, I get to see this cycle work every single day.
My Project
My classroom lacks access to the technology that most classrooms have. While I have a projector with Apple TV installed in our class, I do not have the technology to connect to it. With an iPad mini, I could use this technology during our circle time to introduce new concepts to the whole group in a format my children have grown to love and understand. The iPad would also enable access to our music library as well as exciting Apps and games that can be displayed and played as a whole group. This would help create a fun and engaging circle time.
I am also requesting a rug for circle time. Comfort and organization is needed during our circle time. A circle time a rug with space for all and warm colors would invite the children to sit and be engaged in all things large group.
I want to make a transition from the bright primary colors to a more natural palette.
A circle time rug in these colors will be more accommodating to children with sensory issues as well as bring organization by having predetermined spaces for seating on the carpet. Young children are naturally eager to learn and today technology is a big part of learning environments. My students need access to an iPad.
