My Students
My school is on the border of a growing area. This means that the growing portion of our population is suburban, but a large part remains rural. Many of my students live in households that cannot help them with school work. Through Response to Intervention, I target the lowest performing students and help elevate their mathematical ability.
Financially, the chasm exists between the students that we send food home with and the students who drive new cars.
Ensuring that my students all have access to technology and opportunity is my mission regardless of the financial situation.
My Project
My school is in an area that does not recycle plastic. I have made it my project to inform my students about plastic recycling and to give them the ability to recycle plastic. Hundreds of plastic bottles are thrown away every day in this school. I'm getting the idea started in my classroom.
Currently, the plastic recycling program is a blue bag that is clipped to my cabinet and it's time to make it more permanent.
Getting a dedicated plastic recycling bin will increase visibility to the students and help educate the students about the importance of keeping plastic out of landfills and waterways.
