Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Dr. Seuss so wonderfully proclaimed, "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you'll go." My students are eager to learn how to read on their own! We can help by providing the resources they need to reach their goals.
My students are bright, motivated and one-of-a-kind individuals.
They put a smile on my face each and every day, and they all enjoy coming to school and succeeding in the classroom. I feel so blessed to be their special education teacher and I am lucky to work in such a rewarding field.
Even though it has become extremely difficult and sometimes frustrating to educate without needed supplies, our students still come to school eager to learn. Our school rarely has extra funding for enriching material and if they do, the funds are used for older students. Many of my students' families will never have additional money to purchase educational materials; therefore, I hope to be able to provide a fun and interesting way of learning so my students can succeed in life.
My Project
As a teacher, I am constantly trying to incorporate the best academic programs, in my classroom, for my diverse learners. I have recently attended a phonics workshop called Fundations which is through Wilson Language. This new phonics program will enhance my student's five key components for reading; phonemic awareness, phonics and word study, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension. This program is geared to each student's individual developmental levels and overlaps skills instead of teaching these foundational skills in isolation. My students need their own hands-on materials to give them the sensory instruction they need to become successful, confident readers.
My goal is to teach students to understand and apply letter-sound correspondence to decode new words to become independent readers.
By funding this project, you will be providing us with the tools we need to help our students become confident, fluent, and independent readers!
