My students need a 3D printer to further develop their writing skills, explore 3D design concepts, and bring their stories to life as they produce and direct their own stop-motion movies.
Our school is filled with curious and diverse young learners who love to learn! As media coordinator, I have the privilege of teaching and building relationships with all 800 students at our school. My students come from various backgrounds with 100% being served free breakfast and 75% being served free or reduced lunch.
My students do not allow their challenges to deter them from exploring new ideas or learning new information.
Instead, their differences and diverse needs are embraced which has created an engaging, challenging, and welcoming learning environment within the media center.
My Project
For this project students, across all grade levels, will first design their own "3D" main character for their very own short story which will align with grade level specific content standards. This 3D design will be used as a basis for their story. This tangible item will aid students in developing a greater connection and understanding of their character. This will assist students in developing a stronger story and help motivate even the most reluctant writer to tell their story. After designing and getting to know the main character of their stories, students will brainstorm and plan out their short story using a graphic organizer/story board. Once the story is complete and has gone through the editing and revision process, students will begin to create backgrounds and props to further enhance their story. Finally, students will produce and direct their very own stop-motion video to be viewed by all!
This 3D printer will not only help my students improve upon their writing skills and develop a deeper connection with the content taught, but it will also provide them with an exciting way to communicate, respond to readings, and express themselves in different ways.
The printer will be tremendously useful in integrating content standards from across the curriculum with media and technology in a whole new way that will inspire and motivate students to learn new concepts, inquire, and be creative. Let the 3D printing begin!
