Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are incredible! I have 28 motivated English language learners eager to learn.
My students come from a low socioeconomic background with limited resources available.
We are a Title I, Performance Improvement school with a 100% free lunch program. Many parents work two jobs and are struggling to support the family. Though their environment may not be conducive to learning, they have an insatiable love of learning! I know that if we provide them with the right support, resources, and opportunities, they can experience success.
My Project
As you know the COVID-19 pandemic has been remaking daily life for millions of Americans and their children. As a school teacher, it was heartbreaking to tell my students that we would not be seeing each other for awhile.
We are a Title I school that does not have a 1:1 device for everyone so I have to come up with other ways to reach my students so they will not fall behind.
I am requesting AirPods so I can use them as I have Zoom meetings with my students during the week. A majority of my class connect with me and as you can imagine, having virtual meetings can be noisy. They love seeing their friends but I can’t hear everyone. Even when I mute them, it gets difficult hearing responses. I need these AirPods so I can hear and answer questions they have. The AirPods noise cancellation takes out exterior noise so I can hear my students with no distractions. They are also small so my students will never know I have them on!
While we are Zooming, I need the dry erase board easel to show students how to complete assignments. I can use the board to explain math problems, draw graphic organizers, work on spelling and grammar assignments to name a few. It’s magnetic so I can use magnetic manipulatives for my visual learners.
This Coronavirus pandemic has made families and teachers across the country learn to adapt to the evolving changes in daily life. I want to bring a sense of normalcy during these stressful times.
