Our school is part of a small, intimate community with a diverse group of students! Our students are amazing and we are so lucky to have a supportive community, but our classrooms could still use more support to meet the various educational needs we face every day!
With all the diversity we have within our classrooms, we need as many resources as possible to meet all of their learning needs.
I will be teaching in an inclusive setting with half my population needing specialized instruction and additional support.
My Project
Throughout the year, students are taught how to become independent readers and writers through our reading and writing workshop units. Teaching students how to navigate through nonfiction text is an important unit and skill that we cover during the year. As 6th graders, we want students to start learning how to read longer and more challenging nonfiction texts. One way to do this, is through having students read nonfiction chapter books. My classroom currently lacks those resources.
We need nonfiction chapter books that meet the needs of ALL of our readers.
The books I chose cover many different reading levels, yet will provide the challenging experience our students need to develop their nonfiction reading skills.
These chapters books would be used throughout our entire nonfiction unit and would be a greatly appreciated resource!
