Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Can you remember some of your favorite school moments? For most of us our fondest memories include times when our teachers gave us the freedom to be creative through the arts. Sadly, arts instruction is the first thing to suffer during times of financial crisis.
My bright, hardworking students attend school in the heart of one of California's low income areas.
They receive instruction at a Science Charter where Science, Math, and Technology is the focus of our instruction. They participate in an English / Spanish Dual-Language program.
My Project
After our schools were hit with major financial blows, many school districts including mine, began to make cuts in areas they felt would do the least possible damage to our students learning experience. It is my belief that they made a huge mistake.
The benefits of music instruction have been researched and proven. Students show increased abilities in attention and memory and perform better on various types of test. Learning how to play an instrument helps students to become better learners in general. But most importantly it is FUN!
We need a set of musical instruments to receive music instruction throughout the year. It is my goal to integrate music instruction into our charter curriculum. It is my vision to expose my Kindergarten students to a variety of music and musical instruments from all over the world, teach them musical vocabulary, show them how to produce different types of musical rhythms, and appreciate the music they produce and listen to.
Music instruction can enrich the soul, bring people together and offers students the opportunity to express themselves in a way that can feel safe and powerful at the same time.
I truly believe in the positive effects music can have on a students academic achievement as well as overall personal development and hope you will help me in my vision by donating to my classroom.
