Bringing More Technological Tools to Our Second Grade Scholars.
My students need a new iPad Mini and a sturdy child protective case to more flexibly utilize technology to enhance their in-class learning, academic curiosity, and problem-solving opportunities.
We are an energetic and colorful learning community. Our neighborhood school is in a large, complex, diverse, urban district. This is our fourth year as a "new" school and have grown each year since we have opened. It is exciting to be a part of such a vibrant community.
Our diverse classrooms are inclusive of people who have different needs or views than our own, and are centered around students making academic progress and showing growth as classroom and school community members.
We leverage student interests, backgrounds, and curiosities to engage them in active learning.
We embrace diversity here! Do we have ELL students? Yes! Students who fall on the autism spectrum, sure! Kids with low socio-economic status, absolutely! Kids who have some advantages over some of their classmates, yup! A wide variety of skin tones, cultural backgrounds, ethnicities? Yes, yes, yes. Kids who need additional enrichment or need a little extra help throughout the day...of course, of course.
At our school, we take kids for who they are and help them grow and discover who they can be as scholars, community members, and fellow humans.
My Project
Hey, our kids embrace technology (like iPads) and they are learning how to harness it to enhance their learning.... but, traditional desk top computers are rarely flexible enough to meet the needs of students working in learning rotations!
Today's busy classrooms can be infused with adaptable technology, such as an iPad Mini, to allow students to research, make connections, and even remediate or introduce new learning across the curriculum.
In our room, we use technology to further individualize instruction and encourage students to explore their world and deepen their understanding of math, science, reading, writing, research, social studies, biographies, poetry, and personal passion projects.
In a typical daily 4 cycle ELA (that is reading, word-study, vocabulary, and writing) rotation there are generally at least two centers that could be enhance by quick and ready study access to technology.
And, iPad will give flexible options for more individualized math instruction for students who have different needs, as well.
