Do you remember reading from textbooks that were published before you were born? My students are using math books that deliver the concepts in a language way before their time. Each year the concepts get more challenging and the students seem more disengaged.
My students are very eager to learn but for most of them, math is not their thing.
Today students are so up-to-date with technology that when they leave their technological world at home they step into a classroom where they have to take out a book, a piece of lined paper, and a number 2 pencil, all things difficult to find in a regular household. I have learned that technology-based instruction has proven to enhance classroom engagement and that is something I would like to achieve.
My Project
I plan to recreate my daily instruction geared toward technology, I can teach my lesson while staying in close proximity to my students rather than sit in front of the classroom. I plan to give students the opportunity to interact with the lesson through the iPad tools and give them the opportunity to save their work as a pdf and post updates to the class website. My students will learn math can be fun and it can relate to their current lifestyle.
The donation of an iPad mini in my classroom will help enhance student engagement and give my students the opportunity to interact with technology on a daily basis.
It will help me keep my class up to date with daily notes where I can be in closer proximity to my students, making the classroom a more hands-on learning environment.
