Do you remember what it was like to learn math with a piece of paper and a pencil? In my classroom, I try to bring my math lessons to life using hands-on math lessons. The only problem is that I don't have enough manipulatives for them to use!
This year, I have at least 30 smiling faces that will greet me at the door every morning.
I have an evenly split class of boys and girls that consist of every kind of hobby known to man! They are excited to learn and look forward to all of the exciting activities this new school year brings.
My Project
Each school year, I look to bring out each student's love of learning, especially in mathematics. This year, I will be incorporating guided math, which is similar to guided reading. Guided math will allow me to focus on the specific needs of my students using whole and small group lessons. During my guided math lessons, one would see students using all different kinds of math manipulatives to explore the current and new math skills with their hands! This will help the students visualize the concepts they are learning!
It is crucial for students to learn that math is more than just addition or multiplication, but it is a part of our everyday lives.
For most students, it is hard for them to process what the teacher is saying because they are not able to visualize the information. By providing a variety of math manipulatives in my everyday lessons, my students will be able to learn with their hands and visualize the all kinds of math concepts!
