Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are resilient, hard-working, and on a path to better their place in the world. Many come from low-income homes or are part of an underserved population.
Every student in this class is on track for California State University eligibility and many of them will be the first in their families to go to college.
These students love their school, are respectful of its tradition and rich history, and of the diversity that makes the school great.
My Project
We will be using the Dry-Erase Surface to turn our tables into whiteboards. This will allow groups to work on differentiated collaboration rich problems. For example, each table will be given a procedural exercise and be asked to complete the task while hiding a mistake. Groups will then speed date around the classroom, working to find the mistakes hidden by their peers. We will also hang a TV on the wall using the TV mount, and students will cast their work to the Chromecast in order to critique and defend their work in real time using today's technology.
We need to advance the math classroom beyond desks and rows.
Outfitting this classroom will positively affect the learning of 150 math students per year for years to come.
Instead of pumping through 20 items that are exactly like the example, students will work together on real-world problems, stating assumptions, critiquing and justifying peer work, examining multiple approaches, and reflecting on their learning process.
