Bringing Math Fluency to Life

Help me give my students resources to use in our math workshop. These hands on math fluency activities will help enhance my first graders number sense. Having number sense is the foundation to being good math students.

My Students

I am a first grade teacher with 19 students in my class. We are known as The Fishkill Frogs. We have wonderful support services for all of our students needs. Some of my students receive speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy reading intervention and/or academic intervention.

Our school is located in a really cute town.

The best part about our school is the connection we make with our community. During the holidays, we can walk into our town for parades and caroling. The students and parents really enjoy being a part of our school community.

My Project

This math fluency kit will be used in our math workshop to better my students number sense. This will help in adding, subtracting, doubles facts, recognizing numbers, place value, using a 10 Frame to add and subtract and enhance counting skills. Understanding number sense will help students learn basic skills, practice them and apply them in their future.

I will use the fluency kit as part of my mini lesson for my whole class and as small group instruction as needed.

The kit includes a lot of manipulatives that will help all students become fluent in their number sense. The teacher cards will also help teach the skill sin sequential order which will benefit students the most.
