Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In our Pre-K classrooms, we firmly believe our students are citizens from birth. Therefore, we strive to create democratic classrooms that honor and respect their points of view, encourage debate, foster their independence, and build their self-confidence! Inevitably, we encounter challenging behaviors in our classroom. After recently attending a training on transforming these behaviors, I was reminded of the importance of creating magic in the classroom to help children become involved, sustain attention, and ease through transitions!
My Project
One of my fondest kindergarten memories was visiting our neighboring kindergarten class whose teacher had a baby grand piano in the classroom! While we did plenty of sing-a-longs and read alouds with my teacher, being able to participate in those activities accompanied by live piano transformed those moments into pure magic!
Never has that sense of magic been more crucial for our pre-k children then now that we've moved to remote learning.
I am confident that the joy created by the Silly Bear puppet and the beautiful tones of the Sonor Primary Xylophone can create that same level of excitement and engagement for our pre-k students! Whether we are singing, moving our bodies, listening to stories, meditating or simply transitioning to the next activity, both of these items will add that touch of magic to entice all children to engage!
