Bringing Love and Light to Little Friends Filled With Darkness
I need help in continuing the light and love of learning mindfulness strategies to support my students who struggle with overwhelming lives filled with trauma.
I am inspired by the students I work with. So many of them live in a perpetual fight, flight or freeze world, yet they do the best they can with the limited skills that they have taught themselves to manage these circumstances and overwhelming sensations. Since I have received training in mindfulness, my being, life, relationships, and perspectives have changed. It has brought my heart and soul to an even deeper and more meaningful place. This personal change has impacted my teaching, my knowledge and my passion to be more for my students.
I am passionate about students involvement with literacy, especially when it involves character development and life skill negotiation.
Using my passion and creativity through quality literature I have been able to incorporate the teaching of mindfulness and the gifts it provides your body, mind and spirit. I also have been using my own funds for books which I truly can longer afford for our school to use as resource materials. It is just so important to me that we give our students the best possible start in navigating the messes that life can bring along with the achievements and growth they are continually striving for.

This continued training in Mindfulness at the Omega Institute will allow me to gain a deeper level of understanding using the additional presenters knowledge and application of social-emotional competencies. I attended the Mindfulness for Educators training last summer with Daniel Rechtschaffen and look forward to learning more with the additional experts brought forth in this conference. I also facilitated a book study, last summer using Patricia Jennings book, Mindfulness for Teachers! It was a huge success helping my colleagues broaden their awareness and mindset related to trauma.
