Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is located in Pacoima, which is northern San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles. The majority of our learners are hispanic and English Language Learners. My class consists of 2 Transitional Kindergarten learners and 19 Kindergarten learners. About 85% of my learners receive free and reduced lunch.
These learners look forward to coming to school each day and I would like to create a more exciting library for them to help them grow in their reading skills.
All learners deserve to have a fun and enriched reading experience. My kids will get this opportunity by having more books in the classroom for class read alouds.
My Project
Do you remember your favorite book as a child? Well, most likely it was read to you when you were at school. I would like to give my learners the chance to figure out THEIR favorite book by having many different classic books in our classroom. I would also like to make reading more fun by having puppets involved in reading, which allows children to retell the story in a fun and engaging way.
Reading aloud is one of the most important things a teacher can incorporate into her classroom.
Reading aloud introduces the kids to new vocabulary, expressive reading, and the joy of reading. I would like to demonstrate how reading can be fun by having many different and interesting books.
